What is hip hemiarthroplasty?
Hip hemiarthroplasty is a surgical procedure that involves replacing only the fractured head (ball) of the femur bone with an artificial prosthesis. It is usually performed in patients over 70 years old who have sustained a femoral neck fracture that disrupts the blood supply to the femoral head. After the surgery, the patient is mobilized very quickly and typically returns home the same day.
